Alleged Homicide Suspect Apprehended Upon Return to Canada
In a significant development, the primary suspect in a 2010 homicide investigation has been apprehended upon returning to Canada.
The arrest transpired on Wednesday, January 31, 2024, when investigators from the Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) received information from the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) and the Peel Regional Police. The individual in question was wanted in connection with the 2010 murder of Derrick Brooks, who was 32 years old at the time of the tragic incident. Acting on the information, the suspect was taken into custody upon arriving at Pearson Airport from South America. DRPS officers promptly responded to the situation, ensuring the suspect’s safe transportation back to the Durham Region.
Identified as Santos Pocasangre, a 36-year-old individual with no fixed address, the suspect is facing charges of Second Degree Murder and Robbery. Following the arrest, Pocasangre was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
